First day of School

As I type this blog post, Cael has officially completed his first week of school! It was a very successful first week and he is very happy to be back with his friends. He had the same teacher and classmates for one more year, which made for a very smooth transition back to class this year for him.

We got to school a few minutes early so we could take a few photos outside his school. I couldn't believe how much he has grown since last year. I remember taking these same photos last year and wondering what his teacher would be like, would he have friends, would he learn Spanish, how would it be? It was so nice this year to not have so many questions but instead to have a better idea of what to expect.

We walked inside the school gates to where the office is and I wanted to capture Cael's first day of school with just a few more pictures. He willingingly humored me.

And yes, his backpack is almost as big as he is. He should start to have mild homework this year so we had to get serious about his ability to bring things home reliably.

And of course, no trip to drop Cael off nor pick him up is ever complete without a stop at the drinking fountain. Even Coen can get in on the action.

After just a few more minutes of waiting, pretty soon all of Cael's classmates arrived. It was so fun to see them call each other's name, loudly, from across the playground and give each other welcoming hugs after being separated all summer. The bell rang and Cael's teacher came to the door where she was swamped by squeals of delight and huge hugs. Cael briefly gave me a hug and then ran down to his classroom. School year 2012 has begun!
