We have been hearing about the caves (cuevas) of Valporquero since we arrived. They are legendary and about 45 minutes away from us. This little trip was on our summer bucket list and we made it out there one day before the end of summer...yay!!
The drive there was absolutely beautiful. Getting pictures from a moving car is always hard; the plants and trees in my pictures are almost always blurry. And I always feel frustrated that I can't quite capture just how beautiful it was outside. But that doesn't stop me from trying!
The place offers tours of the cave, which was nice to know what we were looking at and to make sure we didn't get lost :) There was a bit of a walk to the entrance of the cave and it was exciting to enter into our very first cave!
The boys had a really good time. There were lights strategically placed so that you could still see the walls and limestone formations. We had watched the Planet Earth episode on caves before going and both boys really enjoyed seeing actual caves and bats. The tour was just the perfect amount of time inside a cave and we really enjoyed seeing God's creation in a very different way.
Once back outside, the boys enjoyed running around a bit before heading back. The caves were super cold inside so the outside heat was much appreciated.
We had a great excursion and enjoyed the surrounding beautiful countryside outside the caves too.
It looks like the boys are wearing the famous European men capris. :) So cute!!! :)

DeleteHow fun to have that practically in your backyard! I think the closest caves like that to us here are in New Mexico (?).
